Transportation
Transportation is the cornerstone of Johnson County Senior Services and the program on which our agency was founded in 1979. For decades, this vital service has helped older adults remain independent, connected, and engaged in their community.
JCSS provides free door-to-door transportation for Johnson County residents 60 years and older. Our caring drivers provide transportation for life-saving treatment, medical appointments, as well as non-medical, including but limited to pharmacy visits, grocery shopping, personal errands, recreational activities, social engagements, and much more.
Rides must be scheduled by calling (317) 738-4544 at least five business days in advance. Transportation services are available throughout all of Johnson County and extend as far north as Southport Road for Johnson County residents.
While there is no charge for this service, donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated, and help us continue providing this life-changing program to older adults throughout our community.
Food Pantry
Johnson County Senior Services maintains a food pantry stocked with nonperishable food, household essentials, and personal care items to help supplement the nutritional and daily living needs of older adults throughout our community.
Food requests are typically available for pickup the next business day. For older adults who have no other means of transportation or assistance, caring JCSS volunteers are available to deliver food orders the following day, ensuring no senior goes without essential items.
In addition to individual assistance, JCSS coordinates weekly bulk food deliveries to several community locations, expanding access to those who may otherwise face barriers to receiving support.
Our food pantry is made possible entirely through the kindness and generosity of our community. Donations, food drives, community partnerships, and caring individuals ensure that older adults have access to the essentials they need while helping them maintain their independence, dignity, and well-being.
Durable Medical Equipment
Johnson County Senior Services (JCSS) is proud to offer a Pay-It-Forward Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program that helps older adults maintain their independence and quality of life.
Through the generosity of our community, JCSS accepts gently used durable medical equipment—including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, shower chairs, bedside commodes, and other mobility aids—in good, safe condition. These donated items are then provided free of charge to older adults in need throughout our community.
In addition to durable medical equipment, JCSS also distributes incontinence supplies, personal care items, toiletries, and other essential daily living necessities to help ensure older adults have access to the resources they need to remain safe, healthy, and independent at home.
Information & Assistance
Navigating the many programs, services, and resources available to older adults can be overwhelming. Our Information & Assistance Program serves as a trusted starting point, connecting seniors, caregivers, and family members with the information and support they need to make informed decisions and access valuable community resources.
Whether someone is seeking assistance with transportation, food, housing, healthcare, benefits, caregiving, or other aging-related services, our knowledgeable team is here to listen, answer questions, and provide guidance with compassion and respect.
Beyond assisting individuals, Johnson County Senior Services is committed to educating our community through presentations, workshops, and outreach events. We regularly share information with faith communities, senior living communities, civic organizations, businesses, and community groups to increase awareness of available resources and empower older adults to live with dignity, independence, and confidence.
No one should have to navigate the aging journey alone. We are here to provide information, connections, and support that help older adults thrive while remaining engaged in the community they call home.
PAWSitivity
The PAWSitivity Program was created to help older adults care for the beloved pets who provide them with companionship, comfort, purpose, and unconditional love. For many seniors, a pet is more than an animal, they are family. Unfortunately, rising costs can make it difficult to provide essential food, litter, treats, and other supplies, leaving some older adults facing the heartbreaking possibility of surrendering their cherished companions.
Recognizing this growing need, Johnson County Senior Services partnered with Johnson County Animal Control to create a community-wide effort that ensures older adults have access to the pet supplies they need. Through the generosity of individuals, businesses, organizations, and community partners, PAWSitivity helps remove the financial burden of caring for a pet so older adults can continue experiencing the emotional, physical, and social benefits that pet ownership provides.
By helping keep pets and their owners together, PAWSitivity reduces stress, loneliness, and isolation while preserving the special bond that enriches the lives of both. Together, we are ensuring that no older adult must choose between meeting their own needs and keeping the loyal companion who brings them comfort, love, and joy every day.
Seniors Still Believe
Many seniors throughout Johnson County suffer from isolation, loneliness, depression, and serious illnesses. Many live alone and have lost their spouses and have no family. This program allows us to partner with many companies and residents, who choose to make a positive difference in the lives of 3,456 seniors with gifts to help brighten their 2025 Holiday Season.
